Don't wait until a bill is about to become law to make your voice heard.
Use the official government resources below to find the elected officials who represent you, including your U.S. Representative, U.S. Senators, California State Assemblymember, California State Senator, and local government officials.
Knowing who represents you makes it easier to call, email, write, and speak up about legislation that affects you.
Your member of the U.S. House of Representatives represents your congressional district in Washington, D.C.
Enter your ZIP code using the official U.S. House website:
https://www.house.gov/representatives/find-your-representative
Your ZIP code may cross more than one congressional district, so you may be asked to enter your full address.
Every state has two U.S. Senators.
Use the official U.S. Senate directory to find your state's senators and their contact information.

A lot of the legislation covered on Scotties Hobbies begins in the California State Legislature.
If you want your opinion heard on a California bill, two of the most important people to know are:
Your California State Assemblymember
and
Your California State Senator
The California Legislature has an official address lookup that will tell you which Assemblymember and State Senator represent your address.
https://findyourrep.legislature.ca.gov/
Enter your home address and the site will identify your California legislative districts and representatives.
Local government decisions can be just as important as decisions made in Sacramento or Washington.
Depending on where you live, you may be represented by:
β€ Mayor
β€ City Councilmember
β€ County Supervisor
β€ County Executive
β€ School Board Members
β€ Other city, county, and local officials
https://www.usa.gov/elected-officials
USA.gov provides resources for finding and contacting federal, state, county, city, and other elected officials.
Finding them is only step one.
If there is legislation you care about, tell them.
You can:
π Call their office
π§ Send an email
π Submit a comment through their website
βοΈ Send a letter
ποΈ Contact their district office
You don't need to write a novel.
Something as simple as:
βHello, my name is [NAME], and I live in [CITY]. I am one of your constituents. I am contacting you regarding [BILL NUMBER]. I am asking you to vote [YES/NO] on this bill because [SHORT REASON]. Thank you for representing our district.β
can make your position clear.
One of the reasons I cover legislation on Scotties Hobbies is so we can catch these bills while there's still time for people to get involved.
Once a bill has passed both houses and is sitting on the Governor's or President's desk, many of the opportunities to influence it have already passed.
That's why I'll continue watching legislation involving:
π Cars and trucks
π§ Automotive repair
π¨ Emissions and smog laws
π Aftermarket performance parts
π» Off-road vehicles
β½ Fuel and energy policy
π° Vehicle taxes and fees
π£οΈ Transportation policy
When I find something worth watching, I'll let you know what the bill does, where it is in the process, and when it's time to start making phone calls.
